Karamay wins traditional culture education awards

The Karamay municipal education bureau was honored by the national language committee with a China Traditional Culture Education Excellence Award on Dec 13, the Karamay Daily reported.

Li Zhihui, headmaster of Nanhu Primary School, was awarded for the school's efforts in promoting traditional cultural education.

Yu Huiping, vice director of the Karamay municipal education bureau, noted that the awards recognized the achievements of that academic area.

"Many Karamay schools made traditional culture a highlight of their overall educational plan; the winning schools all have regular activities of reading traditional poets and so on," said Yu.

The primary and middle schools will increase cultural training so that kids around the city can be nourished by traditional culture.

Over 1,000 educational experts from 26 provinces attended the forum. Liu Jiageng, vice director of the China National Classical Education League, attended the awarding ceremony.

Zhang Xijun, director of the education and sports bureau of Huangdao district, Qingdao, Liu Jiageng, vice director of the China National Classical Education League, Zhang Shiping, director of the Language Application Institute of the Ministry of Education, and Wang Xuming, director of the Publication Press of the National Language Committee made keynote speeches on the essence of traditional Chinese culture and methods of teaching it.
