Lantern festival was celebrated in a particularly modern way this year in Karamay with the integration of traditional culture and modern technology.
The celebratory activities kicked off with drum performance, dragon dances and puppet shows at the city's Iron Horse Square.
Traditional crosstalk, acrobatic and dance performances were given a modern twist with the help of laser technology, and lantern riddles included QR codes to award winners with tickets to a monkey drama.
Snacks such as barbecue and marshmallows, and artworks varying from paper cutting and lanterns, to handicraft articles with national characteristics were available to visitors on the day.
Around 70,000 attended the city's Lantern Festival Gala on February 21 and 22, generating a turnover of 100,000 yuan ($15,397).
