Baijiantan district's No 16 and No 20 primary schools in Karamay city, in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region held a ceremony on June 20 to receive the books donated from teachers and students in Qingpu district in Shanghai.
"Thanks to the teachers and students in Qingpu Experimental Elementary School Karamay students have more books," said Tang Shanshan, an instructor at Baijiantan district’s No 16 Primary School.
Early in May, Shanghai back-up Xinjiang officials found out that primary school students in No 16 and No 20 primary schools in Baijian district were unable to meet their schools' reading demands due to poor family conditions. They therefore launched an activity called "fulfill dream 1 + 1" calling for Shanghai schools to donate books.
Students in Karmay performed recitation and hand gymnastics to express their gratitude to teachers and students in Shanghai.
