The 2016 Silk Road Science Festival concluded in Karamay city in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on July 26. The event started on July 22 and attracted nearly 10,000 participants from home and abroad, according to authorities.
The six-day event provided an international platform for people from countries such as the US, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and South Korea, along with contestants from 17 Chinese provinces and municipal cities such as Beijing, Hebei and Shanghai to discuss science development and take part in various contests.
The science festival consisted of an opening ceremony, science competitions, themed forums and exhibitions.
This year’s gala focused on cyber security, individual innovation and aerospace scientific developments and technology.
The festival is jointly held by the Karamay government and the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, in support of the Belt and Road Initiative. It aims to advance cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative region and build Karamay into a bridge linking West China and Central Asian countries.
