A bridge team from the city of Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region captured a best-ever third place in the 2016 China Bridge Open Congress (Guazhou) on Aug 7.
Fourty-two teams from 19 cities around the country took part in the four-day competition, which include eight rounds of preliminary and six finals. Each team should juggle for about 168 rounds of bridge games before reaching the top four of the award list.
The Karamay Taurus team scored a total of 96.92 points after eight rounds of preliminary and entered in to the final coming out on top four. It then eclipsed the Shanghai bridge team by a score of 93-31 to win the third place.
The four players on Taurus averaging 50 years old were staffs from the Karamay Taurus Engineering Construction Cooperation, including Zhao Jiang, the chairman of the company, as the team leader.
The bridge competition is an exciting part of the 2016 Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo (SRDICE) on Sept 20 to promote communication between China and countries along the Belt and Road Initiative regions. The cultural expo, which will offer many forums as well as displays, is being held in Dunhuang for the first time.
