Karamay proved to be a popular destination for visitors during the week-long National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7.

According to official statistics, the city’s tourist hot spots attracted 310,500 visitors during the holiday, up 6.41 percent on the same period last year. Revenues from visitor spending over the week hit 102.47 million yuan ($15.25 million), up 13.27 percent on 2015.

Tourist attractions such as the World Ghost City in Urho district, Black Oil Mountain and Karamay River all reported rises in visitor numbers during the break.

Officials say that the city’s Big Oil Bubble, a large round metallic structure which opened to the public in 2015, was a big draw for visitors to Karamay this year.

The hot springs in Dushanzi district, village resorts in Urho district, and the Karamay Science Museum also proved popular, particularly among those travelling by car.
