Urumqi breaks ground on new cloud computing center

The Urumqi State High-tech Industrial Zone held a foundation stone-laying ceremony for a cloud computing center in the city of Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Oct 20.

The center was invested by Dawning Information Industry Company. The first phrase of its construction will occupy a ground space of 8,000 square meters at a cost of 250 million yuan ($39.32 million). Upon its completion in 2016, the center will provide services covering e-government, e-commerce, social management and culture in multiple languages.
Xiao Dongyong, director of the zone’s economic development commission, said that the industrial zone was working towards building a hub of modern information and science and technology, and transforming Urumqi into a center along the Silk Road Economic Belt. Xiao also expressed his belief that the center will speed up the integration of the equipment manufacturing, electronics and information industries.
Wang Hongzheng, vice-director of the industrial zone’s administration committee, said that the zone will build supporting facilities for the cloud computing center and help construction works to be complete as soon as possible.

The hardware products, solutions and cloud computing services of Dawning have been applied extensively in the fields of education, meteorology, health care, energy, Internet and others.
Dawning has set up cloud computing centers in South China, Central China and Northeast China. These include centers in Chengdu in Sichuan province, Wuxi and Nanjing in Jiangsu province and Baotou in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
