Urumqi launches cross-border e-commerce center

Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, launched its first sorting and customs clearance center for cross border e-commerce on July 8.
Completed in June by the Xinjiang Airport Group Co, the enterprise made a 6 million yuan ($882,041) appropriation for the purchase of corollary equipment and software. It also set aside an international warehouse with a value of 65 million yuan for a supervisory business.

The center will specialize in the import and export business, supervision over personal items and customs clearance.
It will not only enhance customs clearance efficiency, but will also facilitate cross-border e-commerce companies and upgrade trade logistics in Urumqi, according to Gao Feng, Urumqi's deputy mayor.

Li Ping, deputy head of the Urumqi State High-Tech Industrial Zone, said that the government will offer support and cooperate with the over 600 e-commerce and logistics companies to make the center a national cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot area.
