Lu Xiaoling, who has donated hematopoietic stem cells to a leukemia patient, returned to Urumqi city on March 10, the uetd.gov.cn reported.
The donation surgery was done on March 7 in Beijing Air Force General Hospital. Lu Xiaoling's contribution is expected to save the life of a girl with leukemia.
Lu Xiaoling lives in the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Urumqi city, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. She is the second donor in the zone -- the first was Liu Yan who made a donation in 2011.

"I knew the China Marrow Donor Program in 2006 from a public welfare activity, and at that time I decided to join the program but failed since my family was against me," said Lu Xiaoling.
In 2010, Lu donated blood at a station in Zhongshan Road in Urumqi city and left her blood sample, since she knew that she could join the CMDP through the blood donation station.
In September, 2015, when she heard that her leukocyte antigen (HLA) matched with a leukemia patient's, she decided to donate the cells. A physical examination showed all her physical indexes to be up to the standard.
"Luckily, my family supported me this time and my 15-year-old son even feels proud of me," she said.
Lu is the 5,490th donor in the China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP), and the 22nd donor from Urumqi city, said Zhang Xiaoxin, the head of the relief aid department of Urumqi city's Red Cross.
The Red Cross in the development zone organizes the hematopoietic stem cell collective donation once a year, according to Wang Jiaojiao, the president of Red Cross. People aged 18-45 can register as volunteers; those willing to participate as donators can phone 0991—3773189.
