A high-end equipment production base in Urumqi, capital of Northwestern China's Xinjiang autonomous region, has completed construction and is expected to go into operation by July, local media reported on July 7.
The manufacturing base, with a total investment of one billion yuan ($150 million) from the China Railway Construction Group, covers 100, 000 square meters at the Urumqi Economic and Development Zone.
Operating eight production lines, it will mainly manufacture shield machines, mining tunnel engineering equipment and special excavation equipment for coal and other large mines.
Mechanical equipment used for shield machine production has been delivered in place, and components and parts will be assembled in the near future. Two shield machines are going to be applied in the construction of Subway Line 1, said Liu Haihua, deputy general manager of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group Co.
