Urumqi Vocational University inaugurated a training center on Oct 17 marking strengthened ties between the school and companies in the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone.
Cheng Tao, Party committee secretary of the zone's education bureau, said that more than 20 companies in the zone, including five Global 500 ones and 15 listed as among the top 500 companies in China, have contacts with the school.
"Shanghai Volkswagen built a training room in our school two years ago and put the responsibility of training their workmen on our shoulders," said Tian.
"The center will give us more chances to practice the theories we learn in our classes and find good jobs more easily after graduation," said Tian Yapeng, a freshman of the school.
The center has a talent training base, an innovation service department and an international commerce and trading logistics cooperation and communication base.
Tian Xiaoxia, the school's deputy president, said that training in the center will cover 68 majors and the 15,000 students will all have opportunities to communicate face to face with the zone's leading companies.
"The establishment of the center marks the first of Urumqi's efforts in promoting vocational education in its three national level development zones including the Economic and Technological Development Zone, Urumqi high-tech Industrial Zone and Urumqi Ganquanpu Economic Development Zone," said Zhao Jianghua, an authority of Urumqi's education bureau.
Thanks to the technological training courses that the school adds to theoretical education, the employment rate upon graduation is 90 percent.
