Urumqi authorities have announced that the city's standard elderly care pension has increased from 115 yuan ($16.72) to 180 yuan per month from the beginning of this year.
Residents from Toutunhe district will also receive the increased pension.
According to Zhang Yabin, an official from Toutunhe human resources and social security bureau, the elderly care pension was set at 115 yuan a month in 2015 before this latest increase of 56.6 percent.
"Toutunhe's 2,318 elderly residents will receive the increase," Zhang said.
