“What a hard life you’ve been living. This is the most bitter meal I’ve ever had in my life,” said Chinese businessman and high-profile philanthropist Chen Guangbiao, after finishing a meal in Xiadapa village in Southwest China’s Guizhou province,.
After the visit, he had another plan: to invite 5,000 poor households to share sumptuous meals on the eve of the next Lunar New Year, reported Jinqian News Online
Chen plans to invite 1,000 poor households from five provinces: Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Gansu and Xinjiang. One hundred tables of food will be prepared, he said, with all the food, tables and chairs coming from Nanjing, where his company is located.
After the meal, all the tables and chairs will be donated to the poor. “I have only one requirement for them: to sing a song for the party in chorus after the meal,” said Chen.
Xiadapa village, located in the most remote rock desert in Guizhou, has an annual income of less than 1,000 yuan ($157) per household.
