Yunnan provincial government recently announced its 7th batch of antiquities to get provincial protection. So far, the province has 386 antiquities on the provincial protection list.
Assessment and verification of antiquities are fundamental in antiquity preservation. Since 1965, the Yunan Provincial Government has announced 6 batches of antiquities with a total of 317 items to be listed as focal points of protection. Since the beginning of 2011, the Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage started the declaration and selection of the 7th batch of antiquities.
In the released list, there are 11 ancient sites, 6 ancient tombs, 95 ancient buildings, 28 constructions of historical importance in the modern and contemporary history of China, and 3 other items.
Other than antiquities belonging to the conventional categories, selection of this batch also pays attention to newly recognized types of cultural heritage, such as vernacular architectures, industrial heritages and cultural landscapes.
Some items of these types include the architectural complex of the Lisu Minority in Tongle, the vernacular dwellings of Puyi People in Lazhe, Nanqiao Hydro Power Plant in Kaiyuan, the ancient post road in Lufeng County, the part of the Ancient Tea Route in Yunan and the terrace in Nano,Yuanjiang.
