Yunnan province implemented a new policy of sales tax refunds for overseas travellers on April 1.
According the regulations, visitors from other countries and Chinese residents from Taiwan and Hong Kong who reside in the mainland for less than 183 days are eligible to receive value-added tax refunds at the port of departure where they have bought commodities from tax free shops.
The province has designated Kunming Changshui International Airport and Lijiang Sanyi International Airport as pilot ports to implement the refund services.
