Gaoxin No.1 Primary School, Kunming

Gaoxin No. 1 Primary School of Kunming province is a modern experimental primary school invested by Kunming National High-tech Industrial Development Zone in 2000. It has three branch schools, which are Yike Road School, Haiyuan Road School and Jingdian School, and two attached kindergartens. Altogether there are 103 classes and over 5,400 students.

Yike Road School began on Aug 23, 2000, covers an area of nearly 1.7 hectares, with a gross floor area of over 10,000 square kilometers and 36 classes; Haiyuan Road School began on Aug 23, 2010, covers an area of nearly 3.7 hectares, with a gross floor area of over 37,000 square kilometers and 60 classes; Jingdian School opened on March 1, 2013, covers an area of nearly 2.5 hectares and 48 classes.

Gingyi Tiancheng Kindergarten and Jingdian Shuangcheng Kindergarten, attached to Gaoxin No.1 Primary School, opened in July 2012 and February 2013. In 2012, with approval from the District Administration Council, Gaoxin No.1 Experimental School of Kunming province was established based on Haiyuan Branch School of Gaoxin No1. Primary School, offering students nine-year education, leaving great room for both students’ and the school’s development. So far, the school has three branch schools and two affiliated kindergartens and offers primary school, middle school as well as preschool education.

The schools are managed by the same unified team, which allows the consistency of school culture, teaching ideology and study environment, as well as the conformity of concepts, methods and goals of education. The unified management concerning teaching, school activities, course design and teachers has brought tangible benefits.

Over 98 percent of the teachers have bachelor’s degrees or above, and 30 have their master’s degrees and over 50 got their degrees as on-the-job postgraduates. Moreover, two teachers have been named Special-grade Senior Teacher, and those who have the honor of Discipline Leader, Backbone Teacher and the New Star of Education account for 32 percent of the total teaching staff.

In addition, teachers have written over 3,000 papers that have been awarded prizes, and students also have won more than 7,000 prizes at different levels of competition.

The school has also been awarded many honorary titles, including “Training Base for Headmasters of Primary Schools and Secondary Schools” granted by the Department of Education, “International Ecological School”, “Experimental School of Education Profession Committee under the Chinese Education Society”, “School of Harmonious Culture” in the 5th national appraisal, “First-level Model School of Yunnan Province”, “School of Good Culture in Yunnan Province”, “Red Scarf Model School of Yunnan Province”, “Experimental School of Teaching Research of Yunnan Province” and “Top Ten Safe Campuses of Kunming City”.
