Kunming National Hi-Tech Industries Development Zone was recognized as a national ideal of industry-university-research cooperation in China during a forum involving the mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau during the China Association for Science and Technology annual conference. Around 200 experts from the fields of science and technology, business and finance from the four areas took part, promoting innovative investment and industrial upgrading.

They put forward a number of strategies to build innovative platforms for their regions, aid science and technology cooperation and accelerate regional economic development.

Kunming Hi-Tech Zone has long attached great importance to industry-university-research, setting up a public service platform of bio-industry technology, together with Kunming Institute of Botany and Zoology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The zone has laid a green passage for the commercialization of innovative and high technology. Meanwhile, it has enhanced cooperation with CAS, Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology, China Academy of Space Technology, and many institutes of higher education in the province, to carry out training, science and technology research and commercialization of research outcomes.

It also helps enterprises innovate, invest more on research ability and undertake national scientific research projects in addition to focusing on creating a comprehensive innovation service system and improving the financial system of science and technology. Last year 55.84 million yuan ($8.94 million) was allocated to support enterprises in the zone. Most recently, it awarded a hi-tech team and three hi-tech talents 5.5 million yuan ($880,550). Such financial support has accelerated the development of hi-tech enterprises in the zone.
