The environment protection investment index is vital when evaluating whether a city can become a national model city for environment protection. Kunming National Hi-Tech Industries Development Zone has invested over $22 million in environment protection in 2013. To complete the economic society development mission of 2014 set by municipal government, namely a 1.5 percent annual increase in environment protection investment, the zone should invest more than $22.3 million.

To fulfill the plan, the zone collected support materials and relevant statistics and invested in urban environmental infrastructure, watercourse and reservoir improvement, pollution control facilities operation and management, and the environment management capacity building.

According to statistics, the zone has invested nearly $12 million in environment protection, meeting 53.69 percent of the annual target, which exceeds the original plan by 3.96 percent.
