Wang Minzheng, director of the administrative committee of the Kunming Hi-Tech Zone, visited seniors in the Zone on Sept 29 for the Double Ninth Festival, which is also Chinese Seniors’ Day. Su Yu, secretary of the Party Working Committee in the Zone also took part in the activities.
The group successively visited Sun Xiaomin, a centenarian living in the Zone, Yang Xingyou, an old Party member, and Li Yuncai, a low-income elderly person with no family. The group brought them rice and edible oil as presents and gave them some festival bonuses, and asked about their well-being and needs. The elderly were moved and excitedly and repeatedly expressed their gratitude to Wang Minzheng and the Zone. “Thank the Party and the government,” said Li, “for their cares and concerns over the years.”
The 9th day of the 9th lunar month is the traditional Chongyang Festival, or Double Ninth Festival. It fell on Oct 2 in the Gregorian calendar this year. In 1989, the Chinese government marked the day as Seniors’ Day.
