Hans-Peter Brunner, senior economist at the Asian Development Bank, led a delegation to visit the Kunming Hi-Tech Zone on Nov 11 to study its development under the cooperation framework of the Greater Mekong Subregion.

Brunner visited several enterprises in the Zone, including Sunpa Technology Co, a leading digital medical equipment manufacturer; Longrun Group, one of the biggest biological resource developers in China; and Sipu Group, a developer for basic software. He listened to a brief description of their innovation and development.

At a later meeting with directors of the Zone, Brunner said that the delegation from the Asian Development Bank was aiming to study the efficiency of investment, the construction of innovation and research centers and the information sharing platform, and regional economic integration in the major industrial zones in China, Vietnam and Thailand. He said he learned through his investigation that Yunnan has made impressive progress in innovative technology.

Wang Minzheng, director of the administrative committee, outlined the Zone’s economic development plans and said that the Zone was more than willing to enhance cooperation with the Asian Development Bank to boost the development of innovative technology and information sharing.
