Twelve stations along Kunming metro lines 1 and 2 are now covered with a wireless local area network. Once linked, portable electronic devices will automatically connect to the WiFi every time passengers enter the metro stations, if required.

The WiFi coverage project is under construction. It is expected that passengers can access the free WiFi everywhere in the stations and in the metro coaches. The bandwidth will exceed 400 megabytes when the metro is running and reach 1 gigabyte when static, allowing nearly 1,000 passengers to exchange data or connect to the internet.

At present, the WiFi service covers 12 stations, namely Dongfeng Square, Tangzixiang Lane, Ring Road South, Kunming Railway Station, Fude, Rixin Road, Wujiaba Dam, Changhong West Road, Xiaodong Village, Erji Road, Xingyao Road, and New Asian Sports Stadium.
