The Kunming Hi-Tech Zone held publicity activities on May 20 to mark the 16th World Metrology Day.
The Zone’s bureau of quality supervision, organizer of the event, sent working groups to local enterprises, communities and schools to publicize the significance of metrological measurement in daily life. Metrology refers to the science and study of units of measurement.
People in the Zone learned about the operating principles behind daily metrological services such as electricity, water and gas meters used for consumption data collection via brochures and posters.
In addition, the organizers explained industrial measurement in emerging industries in the Zone to give them a better understanding of how metrological technology boosts the industrial development.
World Metrology Day marks the adoption of the “Metre Convention” on May 20, 1875, which set the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement and in its industrial, commercial and societal applications.
