County officials from Ireland’s County Clare visited the Kunming Hi-Tech Zone in Southwest China’s Yunnan province on May 20 to explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation in trade and construction of development zones.

Su Yu, the director of the Party working committee of the Kunming Hi-Tech Zone, met with the Irish delegation led by John Crowe, the mayor of County Clare. The delegation visited the Zone, including some leading enterprises in biological resources development and medical equipment manufacturing.

The Kunming Hi-Tech Zone officials briefed the Irish delegation about the development of the Zone’s pillar industries – biological pharmaceutical, information technology, new materials and advanced equipment manufacturing industries – as well as its cooperation projects with the United States, Germany, Israel and Singapore.

Crowe said that County Clare is strong in agriculture and tourism and Yunnan province is famous for its rich natural resources. “Foreign investment is conducive to local economic development. We look forward to economic and trade cooperation with the Kunming Hi-Tech Zone,” Crowe added.

The two sides agreed to increase communication in the future and have regular in-depth cooperation.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang made a stopover visit to Ireland on May 17 and indicated that China and Ireland could enhance cooperation in agriculture and agricultural modernization.
