In the first half 2015, Pu'er's Jinggu county achieved a total industrial output value of 3.44 billion yuan ($541 million) in the first half of this year, resulting in an increase of 8.9 percent compared to 2014.
The county has experienced a strong economic recovery, despite being struck by a 5.8-magnitude earthquake on Dec 7, 2014, officials said.
Yunnan Yunjing Forestry and Paper Ltd, a paper production company based in Pu'er city, was forced to stop production operations as a result of the earthquake. Statistics show that, the earthquake caused the company a financial loss of 470 million yuan.
During the aftermath of the earthquake, Yunjing spent 37 days replacing equipment and restarting production. "Since we restarted production, we've realized an output value of approximately 800 million yuan," said Ma Ning, general manager of Yunjing. The next step for Yunjing is to focus on promoting technological reform.
"Every company in Jinggu was confronted with challenges after last year's earthquake," said He Tao, an official from the Jinggu Industrial Business and Information Technology Bureau.
To help Jinggu-based companies through the difficult period, the local government has begun to implement a comprehensive reconstruction plan. As of September this year, all companies based in Jinggu have resumed production.
