BJ Foodies, the monthly philanthropy club for lovers of fine cuisine, will hold its October charity meal on Sunday at the Spice Factory, a new restaurant in the central Gongti area.

"With an undeniable vibe and laid back yet sophisticated wooden décor, the intimate and sleek Spice Factory is one sexy new venue, with Thai-inspired cuisine to match,” says founder Xixi Cheng in the group's e-mail alert.

"Forget the Adidas tracksuits and sneakers, this is one venue where its worth the effort to look the part," she adds.

The menu includes such delights as a satay selection with a cherry tomato chutney, duck and lychee salad, crispy wontons, red duck curry, kang kong water spinach stir fried with shrimp sambal, and chicken peanut curry with roasted peppered potato wedges. Of course, guests also receive a customary glass of wine or cocktail to get the party started.

The cost is 100 yuan and all proceeds raised this month will go toward A Bridge for Children, or ABC for short. This non-profit organization helps underprivileged children and orphans in China by placing them into families and providing education opportunities. Since being set up in 2007, ABC has successfully launched a domestic adoption program and recently launched an education program.

BJ Foodies has been running since 2008, hosting its first dinner to raise funds to help victims of the Sichuan earthquake. Since then, it has raised tens of thousands of yuan for various charities.
