ICE HOCKEY

Crosby notches 1,000th point

Sidney Crosby completed his march to 1,000 career points in the National Hockey League in typically unselfish fashion on Thursday night.

The 29-year-old Canadian captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins fed Chris Kunitz for a first-period goal against the Winnipeg Jets to become the 86th NHLer to reach the milestone in the league's 100-year history.

Crosby added an assist on Phil Kessel's game-tying goal in the third, then scored the winner with 21 seconds left in overtime as the Penguins escaped with a 4-3 victory.

BOXING

Klitschko eyes ring resurrection

After what will be 17 months out of the ring, former undisputed world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko said on Thursday the chances of resurrecting his remarkable career are "50-50" against unbeaten Anthony Joshua. The 40-year-old Klitschko, who ruled the division for nearly a decade, lost his WBA, IBF and WBO belts in a surprise upset by Britain's Tyson Fury in Duesseldorf in November 2015.

The 6-foot-7 Ukrainian owns a record of 64-4 with 53 KOS, but he hasn't fought since losing to Fury. Two attempts at a rematch failed because of the British fighter's personal problems.

The 27-year-old Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) will try to foil Klitschko's comeback at London's Wembley Stadium on April 29, likely forcing the former champ into retirement if he wins.

The field includes several of the game's luminaries, including Mark Williams, Neil Robertson, Peter Ebdon, Ding Junhui and Pan Xiaoting.

Organized by the China Billiards and Snooker Association, Jiangxi Sports Bureau and Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the event is being held in Yushan for the third time.

An old brand unveils new lines

Renowned outdoor brand Gore-Tex is bullish on its market development in China.

At Thursday's ISPO Beijing 2017, the US company showcased its four decades of achievement in outdoor wear technology, high-lighted by its image ambassador, Chinese actor Dou Xiao, sharing his experience of being outfitted by Gore-Tex when he conquered Tanzania's famed Mt Kilimanjaro.

The ISPO also marked the unveiling of the Gore-Tex Shakedry jacket, designed for bone-dry protection while running outdoors, and Gore-Tex Surround running shoes.
