Pupil posts photos of ear injury

An investigation has been launched by the education department of Zhenguan county after a grade two pupil claimed he was injured by his primary schoolteacher. The pupil, Xiao Yi, published photos of his ear online, saying it had been "torn" by his teacher, surnamed Lu, because he did not finish his homework. The wound required five stitches and the teacher later apologized, according to Xiao Yi's post.

Textbook points to pornographic site

A task force has been set up to investigate how the web address of a gambling website was printed in a biology textbook for high school students. A netizen said he found the link while organizing his children's learning materials. The publishing house that printed the book, which is used nationwide, has said it is investigating and will check all future copies for similar problems. In February, it was reported that a Chinese textbook in circulation contained a web address that redirected users to a pornographic site. The publishing house behind that book said the website concerned had been hacked and the police had been contacted.

Father delivers son out in the snow

A man in Xianfeng county had to deliver his own son on Feb 23 after the ambulance he and his pregnant wife were waiting for skid in snow and ran into a ditch. Shen Kangnian had called for help after his wife went into labor, but was told the ambulance would not be able to cross the narrow bridge to their village. Because of this, the couple walked out in the snow to meet the vehicle, which crashed on its way to the scene. Shen delivered the baby boy, even using his teeth to sever the umbilical cord. Police arrived later and transported mother and the son to hospital, where they are said to be in good health.

Teen tries to take his own life

A 17-year-old in the city's Rongchang district, who attempted to overdose on pills, was rescued after telling a talk show host about his plans to kill himself. The teenage boy called into the show at about 12 pm on Feb 24 asking for help donating his life savings of 2,000 yuan ($291). When the host asked why he wanted to give such a large sum to charity, the boy said he was planning to end his own life. Police located the teen at about 1:30 am the following morning, using information that had been provided by the talk show host. He had consumed a bottle of alcohol and taken a number of pills, but recovered after being sent to the hospital. His parents were unaware that their son was in any danger before the police arrived.

Test perplexes job applicants

A sales company has baffled job seekers by setting a series of unusual questions for its recruitment exam. The test stumped many of the applicants, including experienced sales representatives, as most of the 10 questions had nothing to do with the company's business and the answers could not even be found online. A senior executive from the company denied that they had deliberately set obtuse questions for publicity, claiming instead that they wanted to test applicants' comprehension abilities.

Arson attack on sharing bikes

Police have launched an investigation after 10 sharing bikes were set alight in Chengdu on Feb 26. The bicycles were burned in the city's Sansheng township at about 8 am. It has been suggested that the bikes might have been burned because they were blocking a nearby parking lot. Police said the culprits would be ordered to pay compensation once found.
