Man finds cash in basement box

A man in Shenyang was detained on March 15 on suspicion of stealing 2 million yuan ($290,000) in cash he found in a box in a basement. Police said the suspect, surnamed Qi, had discovered the money in the early hours of March 12 while looking for cars to steal from an underground parking lot in the city's Shenhe district. The cash has since been recovered.

Conned students lose money

The mother of a 5-year-old child in Jiangxia who is accused of defrauding two university students of 50,000 yuan ($7,300) was detained on March 2. Police said the 32-year-old, surnamed Huang, pretended to be 22 in order to target her victims, surnamed Xu and Cao. She allegedly promised Xu that she could help him buy an apartment, in exchange for 35,000 yuan, while Cao was asked for 15,000 yuan to help her buy a shop. Xu and Cao sought police help after they discovered they were "dating" the same woman.

Long-divorced couple remarry

A couple who divorced 37 years ago have remarried in a hospital ward in Wuhan. Li Chaojie and Wang Qing, both in their 80s, were classmates at university in the 1950s. They tied the knot in 1960 and had a son and daughter, but divorced in 1980. Wang was recently diagnosed with cancer, prompting Li to tell her he still loved her and wanted to get married again.

Married woman's lover drowns

A university student in Anning county drowned after falling into a lake while running away from his lover's husband. The deceased, surnamed Nong, was dating a married woman, surnamed Huang, who he had met online. Nong met Huang by the lake, where she told him that she was married and wanted to end the relationship. When he refused to take no for an answer, the husband, who had been hiding in wait, gave chase.

Farmer discovers mammoth egg

A farmer in Pingdingshan's Anliang township who keeps chickens and ducks found three huge eggs on March 10, the heaviest weighing more than 208 grams. The farmer, surnamed Li, said the biggest egg was 9 centimeters long and 6 centimeters across. She said she thought it might be a record breaker, but according to the Guinness World Records website, the heaviest egg ever laid by a hen was in the United States on Feb 25, 1956. it weighed 454 grams.
