Xu Qin assigned top official in province

Xu Qin was appointed vice-governor and acting governor of Hebei province on Friday. The decision was announced at a morning session of the standing committee of the provincial legislature, which also accepted the resignation of governor Zhang Qingwei. Born in 1961, Xu served as the mayor of Shenzhen, Guangdong province, from June 2010 to March 2017.

Hainan

Acting governor appointed on island

Shen Xiaoming was appointed acting governor of China's island province of Hainan on Friday. The appointment was announced at a meeting of the provincial people's congress standing committee. The committee also accepted the resignation of governor Liu Cigui at the meeting. Shen, 53, is a native of Shaoxing, Zhejiang province. He served as vice-minister of education before moving to Hainan as deputy Party head of the province in March.

Boy's death not from beating

The government of Luzhou released the autopsy results on Friday of a student alleged to have fallen to his death, which showed the boy had no injuries from violent attacks and the injuries were caused by falling from a height. The 14-year-old was found dead outside his dormitory building at about 6 am on Saturday, with many suspecting the boy was beaten to death by five other students who are children of local officials.
