Back injury KOs Fury's title try

Hughie Fury, cousin of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has withdrawn from his WBO heavyweight title bout with New Zealander Joseph Parker because of a lower-back injury.

The 22-year-old Fury, unbeaten in 20 fights (10 KO), was due to fight champion Parker (22-0, 18 KO) in Auckland, New Zealand on May 6.

Parker's promotions company released a statement saying Fury would not be able to fulfill his duties.

Fury's camp confirmed the news, saying their man has been advised to rest for three or four weeks.

A new date for the bout will be announced shortly, they added.

US, Belarus set for Fed Cup clash

The United States will take on Belarus in the Fed Cup final after overcoming defending champion Czech Republic on Sunday.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Coco Vandeweghe downed Kristyna Pliskova and Katerina Siniakova 6-2, 6-3 in the crucial doubles match of their semifinal in Florida for a 3-2 winning margin.

The US is a 17-time champion and will be facing debutant Belarus in Minsk on Nov 11-12.

Belarus made the final by defeating Switzerland in their semifinal by sweeping both the reverse singles on Sunday.

Chappell earns first Tour victory

American Kevin Chappell sank an eight-foot birdie on the final hole on Sunday to win the Texas Open, capturing his first US PGA title in his 180th attempt.

Chappell fired a 4-under 68 final round to finish 72 holes at San Antonio with a 12-under total of 276, edging compatriot Brooks Koepka by a stroke.

Americans Tony Finau and Kevin Tway tied for third at 279.

Chappell, a six-time PGA runner-up, was seventh at the Masters two weeks ago.

Sport Climbing

Chongqing event hits new heights

The world's best climbers scaled the heights in the Aozhouma International Sport Climbing World Cup in the Jiulongpo district of Chongqing on the weekend.

Russia swept the top two places in the men's and women's speed categories, while South Korea and Japan finished first and second in the men's rock climbing.

The women's rock climbing was won by an 18-year-old Slovenian.

China's best finish was ninth in both the men's and women's speed competition.

Chongqing was hosting the event for sixth straight time, with a total of 156 climbers, including the top 10 in the world, taking part this year.

Sport climbing is an official medal event for the 2018 Asian Games and the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Trekking

Peak practice in Guizhou mountains

The China National Mountain Trekking Xijiu Cup took place on Sunday in Xishui county, Guizhou province.

Organized by the China Mountaineering Association, Guizhou Provincial Sports Bureau and Zunyi Municipal People's Government, the event featured 42 km of group mountain crossing and 21 km of life survival test.

Zunyi Normal University won the group mountain-crossing challenge.

Yang Jiageng and Long Shengnan, both from clubs in Yunnan, finished first in the men's and women's survival test respectively.
