Suspects nabbed in triple hit-and-run

After a three-month investigation, police have detained three suspects, surnamed Li, Zhang and Zhao, who targeted a man in three separate hit-and-run attacks in Gaoping on Jan 28. The victim, surnamed Qi, was first struck by a black car, and then later knocked down by two other vehicles on the city's Taihua Road. He was found dead at the scene of the third hit-and-run.

Tourists left hanging in the air

 

Four tourists were left stranded in the air for two hours and 20 minutes after an amusement park ride malfunctioned in Taiyuan on May 9. The administrative committee of the city's Yingze Park sought police help, and the tourists were finally brought down safely by firefighters. The local government invested 295 million yuan ($42.8 million) in the reconstruction of Yingze Park in July.

Con men steal cash from senior's purse

 

A senior citizen in Guilin, surnamed Li, recently sought police help after finding that 1,000 yuan ($145) in cash that she had withdrawn from an ATM and put in her purse had been replaced with paper money for burning. A man picked up a wallet from the ground nearby Li and suggested sharing the money inside the wallet with her. Another man then turned up looking for his wallet and accused Li of having taken his money. He asked her to show him the contents of her purse to prove her innocence. After she had her purse returned and the men had walked off, Li realized her cash had been taken and replaced with paper money.

Fancy dress thief has goods seized

 

A 51-year-old man, surnamed Gao, who had stolen items from more than 70 companies in five months was recently detained in Haikou. Gao, a native of Henan province, used to dress up in appropriate costumes depending on who he was conning and where he was committing his crimes. Police seized stolen bags, mobile phones, bank cards and notebook computers at his apartment.

Woman rams car into police station

A woman, surnamed Jiang, was detained after intentionally driving her car into the gate of a police substation in Wuxi on May 6. Jiang sought police help when she was unable to find her car key. She asked the police officer who arrived at the scene to help contact her friend, who Jiang said might have taken her key, but the officer suggested Jiang contact her friend the next day as it was late. Jiang rang a police hotline to complain because she was not satisfied with the way the officer handled the situation. She then located a spare key and drove her car to the police substation where she rammed it into the entrance gate.

'Fattest man' to undergo surgery

Huang Jiaxin, dubbed China's fattest man, is preparing to have surgery to help him lose weight. Huang, 26, weighed more than 265 kilograms when he was admitted to Chengdu No 3 People's Hospital a month ago. Doctors said the surgery will remove 80 percent of Huang's stomach and suppress production of ghrelin, known as the hunger hormone. Huang, who was 4.3 kg at birth, is expected to weigh about 110 kg after the surgery.
