Book collects Xi's remarks on military

A book of selected remarks by President Xi Jinping on national defense and building a strong army has been published, military authorities said on Sunday. The book includes 67 of Xi's statements made between November 2012 and April this year. Xi is also chairman of the Central Military Commission. The book was published by the People's Liberation Army Publishing House. Upon approval by the commission, it will be distributed to officers at the regimental level and above.

Forest fire put out over weekend

A forest fire that broke out on Wednesday was extinguished as of noon on Sunday, according to the region's firefighting headquarters. Most of the firefighters mobilized to battle the blaze began withdrawing from the scene on Sunday afternoon, while about 2,500 people and three aircraft remained as part of a cleanup operation. The fire broke out in a forest in Hulunbuir city's Chenbaerhu Banner, spreading over 8,400 hectares.

Mongolian language database created

Experts have developed a Mongolian language database containing more than 19 million words and phrases, in an effort to protect ethnic culture and language. The program, based on cloud computing technology, was launched in 2012 by the Mengdong cloud computing center in Chifeng city and Inner Mongolia University.

Siberian tiger's footprints found

A set of clear and well-preserved footprints suspected to have been left by a wild Siberian tiger were found by workers at a tree farm in Raohe county on Friday, forestry authorities said on Sunday. Experts said such clear and complete footprints are rare, and they likely belong to a young male tiger.

Two detained for hunting monkey

Two men who allegedly hunted a wild rhesus monkey have been detained, police in Yuncheng city said on Sunday. The police were informed earlier this month that a car carrying a caged monkey had been seized on an expressway in Yuanqu county. An investigation showed that the two suspects, from Henan province, drove to the Shanxi Lishan National Nature Reserve, where they shot a rhesus monkey with a tranquilizer dart and locked it in a cage.
