Frozen 2 shatters China's box office take

Disney's Frozen 2 is gearing up for an ice-shattering opening in China as it continues to lead the box office, according to the China Movie Data Information Network. The film grossed 500 million yuan ($18.61 million) within nine days of opening. In the new animated musical fantasy film, the characters Anna and Elsa travel to an ancient enchanted forest to find the origin of Elsa's powers and save their kingdom. With viewer ratings of 9 on Maoyan and 7.3 on Douban, reviews and audience reaction have been good for Frozen 2. It is the sequel to the first Frozen film released in 2013, which won Academy Awards for best animated feature film and best original song, the popular Let It Go.

Michelin Guide receives mixed response

The Michelin Guide, the foodies' Bible, published its first Beijing food guide on Thursday, awarding stars to 23 restaurants including one three-star eatery, but quickly faced questions from local netizens, who felt some of the restaurants were not that good. The only three-star restaurant is Xin Rong Ji, a seafood-centric chain that was launched in Zhejiang province in 1995. The two-star winners were vegetarian restaurant King's Joy and Shanghai Cuisine Wulixiang. Fifteen restaurants were awarded the Bib Gourmand selection, and 62 restaurants were recognized with a Michelin Plate. The guide also included space for a variety of Beijing snacks. For example, baodu, first recorded in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), consists of fresh beef or lamb tripe cut into slices and then briefly blanched in boiling water before it's served. However, the netizens are not buying it. Some complained that a Western-style guide cannot rank Chinese restaurants.
