A smile will make a difference to the Chinese capital which will host the Olympic Games two years away, said Beijing Olympic organizers here on Monday.

Beijing Olympic Games organizers called on Beijing residents to "give a smile" in a city-wide activity under the theme of "Smile" in a bid to make Beijing a better place to live or visit.

"Directly serving the Olympic Games is one way to show your enthusiasm for the Games but the number of volunteers is limited," said one of the Olympics organizers Liu Jian after the launching ceremony of recruitment of volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Games as well as the Paralympics Games.

"For many more people who can not become volunteers, they are expected to show their good manner and do what they can to make the city a better place," Liu said. "Each Beijing resident is a host or hostess of the Games and be a good host or hostess, and do your part for the Games."

"We hope Beijing residents join in the smile activity and rally to turn the city into a city of smile, city of people," he said.

Beijing marked the two-year countdown to the Olympics on August 8, when the smile activity was launched.

When the preparation for the Games well on track, concerns about "quality of the people" were raised. Both ordinary people and celebrity worry that uncouth behaviors, such as spitting, jumping queues and littering will be an embarrassment to the host city.

To lift people's awareness for etiquette, the Beijing government has launched a campaign, first to promote civility among Chinese travelers. The campaign will last until after the Olympic Games.
