'Good Luck Beijing' sports events held first plenary session

The organizing committee of the "Good Luck Beijing" sports events held its first plenary session Thursday afternoon, as Beijing and the Olympic co-host cities gear up for the upcoming events.
At the meeting, President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) Liu Qi announced the official establishment of the organizing committee of the "Good Luck Beijing" sports events and the names of its top officials.
Liu Qi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee, stressed that the guidelines emanating from the central government shall be carried out in all earnest and urged firm and efficient efforts to push forward the preparation for the competitions.
Also at the meeting, BOCOG Executive Vice-President Li Binghua announced the appointment of the organizational officials and the president of the organizing committee for each sport event, while Vice Mayor of Beijing and BOCOG Executive Vice-President presented a report on the latest progress and the tasks of the events preparation.
State Councilor and BOCOG First Vice-President Chen Zhili chaired the meeting. Also present at the meeting were Liu Peng, minister of the General Administration of Sports and executive president of BOCOG, Wang Qishan, mayor of Beijing and executive president of BOCOG, Deng Pufang, president of China Disabled Persons' Federation and executive president of BOCOG, as well as other government and BOCOG officials.
The sporting events, to be held ahead of the Games, will include 42 games. Thirty-four Olympic competition venues and 46 training venues will be put into operation during the events. About 10,049 athletes, 400 ISF officials, as well as 700 international technical officials and 1,500 domestic technical officials, are expected to take part.
