Jordan will host the first International Olympic Committee (IOC) Seminar on Sport and Peace for the Middle East, which is scheduled from June 12 to June 14, according to a statement released by the Jordan Olympic Committee.
Members of 21 National Olympic Committees from west Asia and north Africa as well as prominent VIPs and speakers will convene in the Red Sea resort of Aqaba for the three-day conference that will highlight the role that sport can play in helping to unite conflicting communities.
On April 19, president of the JOC Prince Feisal, launched the initiative "Peace Through Sport", a new global initiative which aims to use sport as a means to help instill dialogue, tolerance and ultimately peace amongst young people in areas experiencing conflict.
"Never has there been a better time for sport to make a difference and to promote peace by bringing people of all backgrounds together", he said.
Jordan will also host the first Peace Through Sport Summer Camp in September 2007.
Leaders of youth, children, athletes, Paralympics athletes and coaches from countries in conflict such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine and so on, will take part in the event.
