Biathlon Convert

In 1985 Antje Harvey was the reigning East German national champion in cross-country skiing at both 5km and 10km. But when her father, a national cross-country coach, was fired, Antje quit in protest.

After four years away from competitive sport, she took up biathlon in 1989. Three years later she earned silver medals at the Albertville Games in both the 7.5km event and in the 3x7.5km relay. In the 15km race she missed only one target and won the gold medal by 11.3 seconds. She also won a silver medal in the 4x7.5km relay at the Lillehammer Games in 1994.
