Sports career:

Began long-distance run training in Dalian Spare-time Sports School in 1988. Selected by the Liaoning provincial athletics team in 1991. Joined the national team in 1995.

1992 World Cross-Country Championships (Youth Group) - 2nd
1993 Stuttgart World Championships - 1st 10000m
1993 Spain World Cup Marathon - 1st individual & team
1993 National Games - 1st 3000m (8:12.11 and 8:06.11, both new WRs in the prelims and finals), 1st 10000m (29:31.78, first WR within the "30-minute barrier". Still the proud holder of these two WRs today)

Reputed as an "Oriental Deer".

 

At Present:

Stopped training after the 1996 Olympics due to injuries and worked as a business partner with a bodybuilding equipment factory in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province for developing new bodybuilding equipment. Studied law at Liaoning University for a period of time before getting married in May 1997. Joined the national team for intensified training seven months later in preparation for the 1998 Asian Games. Entered the Colorado State University, USA in September 1998 for further studies.

Wang Junxia has been regarded as the best runner in China's sports history. Born of a peasant family, she is known for her tenacious spirit and inflexible will, which played a big part in the making of this great athlete in the 1990s.
