LAGOS -- The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) says it is hopeful of qualifying for the August Beijing Olympic Games.
BFN secretary Bamidele Olumide said Tuesday in Abuja that the country's chances of qualifying were bright.
He said the victory of the duo of Ocholi Edicha and Germany-based Grace Daniel at the just-concluded International Badminton tournament in Nairobi, Kenya, had raised the country's prospect.
Nigeria won a gold and a bronze in the mixed double and women's singles events in the tournament.
Olumide noted that Daniel had so far consolidated the country's leading position among African athletes seeking the Olympic ticket by her performance.
"I think she has just about two tournaments to participate in to get the Olympic ticket," he said.
Team Nigeria's Trust Fund's acting managing director, Mr Gbenga Giwa also told NAN that the Fund was assisting Daniel compete at different badminton tournaments to enable her pick points to qualify for the Beijing Games.
