Hall of fame

Giulio Gaudini (Italy/foil, sabre)

Giulio Gaudini (Sept 28, 1904 - Jan 6,1948) made his Olympic debut as a foil fencer in 1924.

During the final pool, the Italian team withdrew in protest of a judging decision, so Gaudini left Paris without a medal. However, over the next three Olympics, (1928 Amsterdam, 1932 Los Angeles, 1936 Berlin), he earned three gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals.

Aladar Gerevich (Hungary/sabre)

Aladar Gerevich is the only athlete in any sport to win the same Olympic event six times (1932 Los Angeles, 1936 Berlin, 1948 London, 1952 Helsinki, 1956 Melbourne/Stockholm, 1960 Rome).

A specialist in sabre fencing, Gerevich's record probably would have been even more extraordinary if his career had not been interrupted when World War II forced the cancellation of two Olympics. Gerevich made his first Olympic appearance at the 1932 Los Angeles Games when he was 22 years old and made his final Olympic appearance at the 1960 Rome Games - at the age of 50. Gerevich's wife, Erna Bogen, his son, Pal Gerevich, and his father-in-law, Albert Bogen, were also Olympic medalists.

Christian D'Oriola (France/foil)

Christian D'Oriola (Oct 3, 1928 - Oct 29, 2007) was a noted French foil fencer named "Fencer of the 20th Century" by the FIE, the International Fencing Federation, in 2001.

Born in Perpignan, France, he was world champion four times (1947, 1949, 1953, and 1954), and twice Olympic champion (1952, 1956) in the foil individual events. He was also four-time team world champion (1948, 1952, 1953, 1954).
