BEIJING  -- China would fully respect different religious and ethical customs and cultural tradition when ensuring security of the Beijing Olympics, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

China would take the necessary measures to ensure the security of the Olympics, spokesman Liu Jianchao told a regular press conference. He noted China would not show any discrimination against people of any religion or nationality.

Any country that had hosted the Olympic Games before and all the athletes and coaches who will come to Beijing enjoy the same expectation to see a safe Olympics here, he said.

"We hope that our efforts would be understood by people all over the world," Liu said.

If some countries or nationalities have concerns over some specific security measures, they can contact the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of XXIX Olympiad, he added.

China has made unswerving efforts for ensuring the security of the Olympics, and conducted effective cooperation with the international community in this field, Liu said, noting the efforts would be continued.
