BEIJING -- International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge arrived in Beijing Thursday, a week before the Olympics Games opens on Aug. 8.
Rogge will chair a series of IOC meetings beginning Saturday before supervising the run of the Aug. 8-24 Beijing Olympics, the second summer games held during his term as the IOC chief.
Hours before Rogge's arrival, IOC honorary president Juan Antonio Samaranch also landed at the Chinese capital. The 88-year-old Spaniard is expected to stay at the city until the end of the games.
Rogge, 66, succeeded Samaranch in July 2001 as the IOC president.
