Good news for Olympic memorabilia fans: More than 100 mementos from the Lausanne Olympic Museum are now on display in the Swiss Hotel in Beijing.
Highlights include: a table tennis racket and ball signed by Deng Yaping for Juan Antonio Samaranch, former president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC); a pair of shoes (pictured) worn by Italian decathlon athlete Paolo Casarsa in Athens in 2004; ice skates worn by Richard Tottem Button, the gold medalist in figure skating in Moritz, Switzerland in 1948.
Devoted to the heritage of the Games, the exhibition includes a panoply of surprising objects that the museum has saved for decades.
On the mezzanine of the 2nd floor of the hotel, some of the most emblematic objects are on display: for instance, torches and medals from the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
The impressive diversity of Olympic summer and winter sports is evident in the large collection of sports equipment used by past champions.
Posters and memorabilia from the 1928 and 1948 Olympics in Moritz remind the audience that Switzerland has twice hosted the Winter Games.
