Comment on "China plans draft immigration law" (China Daily, May 22)
Transmigration has become very common since China opened up to the outside world. Chinese are settling down in foreign countries and becoming citizens of those countries. Similarly, foreigners are coming to China, settling here and ... yes, the final stage is missing.
It seems to have become impossible for foreigners to get Chinese citizenship. An immigrant who settles in China, has his or her family here and would live here until the end of his/her life should enjoy the same rights and duties like all Chinese, that is, they should be allowed to get Chinese citizenship.
