Comment on "Nine suicides highlight the suffering of migrant workers" (China Daily Website, May 18)
The minimum standard for workers' rights - how to protect them from inhuman working condition - has to be set by the government, because that will reflect the power and development of the state. The state has to enact laws and rules so that migrant workers are not forced to commit suicide.
I know it's a tricky balance to strike. But when unions and companies such as Foxconn are not able to set a minimum standard for workers, the government has to show who is in charge of the people. Thanks for the report.
