Comment on "Geological disasters spike in China this year" (China Daily, Aug 23)
I agree that the Chinese government should make emergency prevention and response a top priority.
Not only should cooperation among the meteorological, water resources, financial and transportation departments be strengthened as Tao Qingfa, deputy director of the Geological Environment Department of the Ministry of Land Resources recommends, but also each of these departments should have staff solely dedicated to emergency prevention and response.
Improving and strengthening what already exists and planning for better development is an excellent way of building infrastructure.
