Comment on "Three minutes' silence for quake victims" (China Daily, April 13)
Although one year has passed, countrymen haven't forgotten the 2,698 victims of the devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai province. A memorial service was held at 7:49 am on April 14, 2011, to mourn the victims and convey the nation's sympathies to the survivors.
In the past year, we have witnessed several other devastating natural disasters such as the quake in New Zealand and the quake and tsunami in Japan. But we are glad to see that human spirit has not been defeated despite being tested by natural disasters time and again.
People all over China should make efforts to help Yushu residents to rebuild their homes. The media coverage given to Yushu shows that a lot has been done there to help the survivors.
But the reconstruction and rehabilitation in Yushu is far from over, and it is important that the authorities and the public join hands to help push the process forward.
