China's maritime surveillance ships reached the waters around Diaoyu Islands to safeguard China's sovereignty on Sept 11. Chinese media launched weather forecasts for the islands on that day after the Chinese government announced its boundaries there. These actions indicate China's firm resolve to protect the integrity of its territory and sovereignty, says an article in People's Daily. Excerpts:
Japan's nationalization of the China's Diaoyu Islands destroys the consensus reached by former leaders of both countries. They simply misjudge China's ability and willingness to defend its sovereignty. Japan is actually stealing China's land using the disguise of nationalization.
Japan says it does not want the Diaoyu Islands issue to affect bilateral relations while it stealthily takes action to steal the islands from China. This is a typical self-deception.
The Japanese government should bear in mind that even if peaceful development is China's strategic choice, it does not mean China will sacrifice its sovereignty and these two issues do not contradict each other.
Japanese politicians should not forget the disastrous results of Japan's invasion of its Asian neighbors last century.
China is no longer the weak country it was back then and reserves all rights to take whatever action necessary to defend its sovereignty on this issue. Japan will reap what it sows.
