The area of the Kanas Lake is 45.75 square kilometers, with the average depth of 120 meters and its deepest point reaches 188.5 meters. The lake is shaped like a crescent moon, surrounded by lush trees. The picturesque scenery of the lake is home to the Tuvas. According to legend, a lake monster, described as a huge red fish, lives there. It is said the monster is 10 meters long.

1. Kanas Lake

Kanas Lake, shut off by mountains, has rich pastures and verdurous lake water. The mountains and the lake comprise a flattering picture, and together take on a marvelous landscape. The elevation of the lake surface is 1,375 meters. The crescent-shaped lake is one of the deep-water lakes of China. The east coast is the interior part of the crescent lake, along which are six bedrock platforms that point into the centre of the lake, forming six 6 gulfs, each with a magical legend. The scenery of Kanas Lake is delightful in all seasons, with its color and environment changing from season to season.

2. New Village of Kanas
Not far from Kanas Lake, there is a village called Xincun. Awakened by the morning sunshine every day, the village is enveloped by a layer of mist, just like a fairyland.

3. Fairy Bay

Fairy Bay is a marshy shoal situated in the low position of Kanas Lake. The lake water with its brilliant color flows under the sunshine, just as if countless pearls were scattered there arbitrarily. Another reason for its name is that it is a dreamlike place, often enveloped by mist — a paradise on earth. Therefore, tourists named it Fairy Bay.

4. Baihaba village, the first village in Northwest
Baihaba village is a typical primitive village of Tuvas, located in the valley flat areas of the Altai Mountains, which faces towering mountains in Kazakhstan. The houses are made of logs, with herringbone spires fixed on the outside of rooftops to withstand the rain and snow. The yellow and thick pines have been extended to the village. All the houses are peacefully scattered among pines and birches.

5. The honest and enthusiastic Tuvas
The Tuvas are an ancient, nomadic people who survive by hunting. The Kanas is the only gathering place of Tuvas in China. They still keep their original way of life. The total number of Tuvas, about 2000, mainly live in Baihaba village. They are sincere and hospitable and have a language without any characters. The local people generally believe that Tuvas are the descendants of soldiers who were left by Genghis Khan during his Western expedition.
