A man named Xu Chunhe was shot dead by a local policeman at the railway station in Qing'an county of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province because he caused disorder after drinking and had a fight with the policeman. The incident raised wide public concern, and during the investigation there was a chain of tip-offs about the illegal practices of local officials.

The fatal shooting of Xu Chunhe was the trigger for an "earthquake" in local official circles. To some extent Xu's death accelerated the anti-corruption campaign. Several local officials were reported for serious violations of the law and Party regulations in the past few years.

And the killing of Xu drew nationwide attention and scrutinizing eyes to the small county. Under such a watchful environment, local officials' illegal practices were more likely to be dealt with. That's one of the reasons for the chain of tip-offs after the fatal shooting.

However, this shows that there are serious problems in the local authorities. Local officials have engaged in illegal practices for long and this has alienated local residents. It's important that these corrupt officials are dealt with in the anti-corruption campaign.
